He received his primary education in his native village, and his secondary education in the city of Plovdiv.
For illegal anti-communist activity he was sentenced to 15 years in prison. From 1952 until he came out free he passed through the prisons of Plovdiv, Shumen, Lovech, Sofia, and Pazardzhik, and through the Belene camp — Persin Island.
His father disappeared without a trace after 9 September 1944.
His brother, a candidate for people's representative in the 6th Grand National Assembly, was interned without a sentence for 4 years and 6 months in Kutsiyan and in Belene — Persin Island.
His sister and brother-in-law were interned in the Strandzha village of Oreshnik.
Poems by Atanas Raykov are also included in a literary reader for the 12th grade, submitted in 2013 to the Ministry of Education and Science for approval.
I thank everyone who helped so that the obscurantism, and the fighters who died for freedom, might be heard of again!
