Description

The region of present-day Northwestern Bulgaria is one of the least studied. This book examines the ceramics of the Roman period from five archaeological sites situated in this territory — Mezdra Kaleto, Altimir Bresta, Yakimovo Gradishteto, Yakimovo Nad urvata, and Conbustica (the village of Kladorub). With the exception of the excavations at the village of Yakimovo, the rest are well dated by coins, which makes it possible to build a chronological and typological scale representative of the ceramic material of the region.
One of the aims of the study is to include the two sites at the village of Yakimovo (Gradishteto and Nad urvata) in the general typology of the ceramics of the region. The conclusions drawn rest on stratigraphic data connected with the region under consideration, and they form a basic typological scheme that may be regarded as a foundation for future research in this zone.
